Burton Roadhouse, set to open Saturday, September 10, 2016:
Stephen and Melissa Russell, dear friends of my parents, are now the new owners of a live music venue in Burton, Texas, called Burton Roadhouse. When they requested brand design services, I was very elated. This is a first. Not only did I do the logo, I also did the following: Website, Postcards, Banner, Exterior/Interior Photography and Food Photography. It was an honor to do the work for a wonderful couple who have dedicated their time supporting live music by hosting house concerts for the past several years. And this time, in a great building across the street from an old but charming train station.
It didn't take long for the Russells to decide on the official logo out of about 8 options. Since it's a nighttime music venue and there would be a music stage, black and white would be it. And I wanted to keep it simple. They were very pleased with it.
Not long after their logo design request, the Russells wanted me to create a website for them. I used the Squarespace platform so they can edit content on their own (adding events to the website calendar and such). Again, this is a nighttime music venue, I wanted to give it a little bit of the Texas nighttime rustic look and feel. They were really pleased, but had one more request to complete the website: a map of Texas showing where the bar is (the bird on the map). And it was then good to go!
Advertising: Save the Date Grand Opening Postcards
Just a little piece of direct mail I created to let everyone know of Burton Roadhouse's upcoming grand opening.
After 10 years of working as a graphic designer in the restaurant industry and attending numerous photo sessions of our menu items, I was given the opportunity to take photos of the Burton Roadhouse menu with my husband Charles assisting. Burton Roadhouse had a private party and their chef Tyler Boling whipped up a few menu items for us to take photos of and enjoy, as well. The bartenders also created a few drinks for the guests who were wonderful by volunteering them for the photo shoot. Lots of different drinks makes for a wonderful photo, indeed. The pizzas, paninis, dips and salad were very delicious!
Photography: Exterior & Interior
Prior to taking photos of the food, I did some exterior and interior shots to create some fill art for the website and possible printed pieces in the future. I truly love the menagerie of textures inside this amazing building.
Photography: Music and Bar Areas
This is a great story. Friends of Melissa and Steve poured their hearts out into forming Burton Roadhouse to what it is today. They built a stage for the musical performers, created a bar out of bowling alley wood, painted, cleaned and prepped everything in time for the grand opening. They did an amazing job!
I am very grateful to the Russells for an incredible opportunity to utilize both of my skills: Graphic Design and Photography. It's been a great experience!
If you're wanting to kick back, hear some wonderful music, savor refreshing beverages and delicious food, be sure to stop by Burton Roadhouse this Saturday, September 10th!
